Light On The La Bella
World Lighthouse Weekend 21st and 22nd August 2010
As part of World Lighthouse Weekend to be held 21st August 2010 Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village Warrnambool will welcome the family of the hero of La Bella wrecked in 1905 off the Warrnambool Breakwater.
World Lighthouse Weekend will be used to throw a new light on one of Victoria s most dramatic shipwrecks when Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village - Warrnambool hosts a dinner to commemorate the loss of La Bella just off the Warrnambool Breakwater in 1905.
Using the backdrop of the state heritage listed Lady Bay Lighthouses the evening will start with a bonfire overlooking the bay and the final resting place of La Bella. The La Bella reef is located just off the end of the current day Warrnambool Breakwater and is a popular dive site due to its relatively easy access.
The family of William Ferrier will join the dinner to commemorate their great grandfathers heroic acts to save crews from the ill fated La Bella. To have the family of the hero of La Bella at the dinner will add a great sense of history as we enjoy this special dinner. Two of William Ferriers Granddaughters have made contact with us and will be special guests at the dinner. explained Peter Abbott Manager Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village.
