In January 2006, it will be thirty years since the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse was re-erected on Marine Parade in Kingston SE. This mammoth task would not have been possible if it wasn't for the effort and contribution made by past National Chairman, Verne McLaren AM, and the generous donation by John Barnett of the land on which the tower was placed.
The National Trust plans to unveil two plaques in
recognition of these two men. When the lighthouse was reopened, the Naracoorte
Pipe Band was present, and they have been invited to come and play again.
The National Trust has also received permission from Canberra to relight the lighthouse for the night in celebration. The light will be lit at around sunset.
A barbeque tea, pancakes, tea and coffee will be available from 5.30pm. Come and enjoy a picnic tea on the lawns in front of the historic lighthouse.
