The maintenance work on the Bulwer Tower is finally finished. The work included replacement of all the top balcony timbers. A number of balcony frame timbers were also found to be deteriorated and were replaced while some of the top vertical timbers were also treated.

Rotted windowsills were replaced and all windows now operate. Interior timber and the ground level galvanised iron has been painted. Disabled access and a concrete mowing strip have been provided at the tower base. A project finalisation report has been sent to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. Queensland Maritime Museum (QMM) is grateful for the financial support provided by the Fund.

Exhibits are in preparation and the ground floor of the tower should, be open to visitors later in the year. The Bulwer Island Lighthouse now makes a fine statement within our grounds and provides a focal point for the entire museum when viewed from across the river or from the Goodwill Bridge.

Thanks to all volunteers who worked around the inconvenience of the work site and observed the conditions of entry to the site while the work was in progress.
