The Cape Tourville Lighthouse

The Cape Tourville Lighthouse was erected in 1971.

It replaced the inaccessible Cape Forestier Lighthouse on Lemon Rock which was decommissioned the same year.

OPERATOR: Australian Maritime Safety Authority
CHARACTER: Group Flashing (3) in 10 Seconds
LIGHT SOURCE: 1000 Watt 120v, Tungsten Halogen
POWER SOURCE: 240v Mains Supply; Diesel Standby
INTENSITY: 160,000 cd
ELEVATION: 126 Metres
RANGE: 28 Nautical Miles
HEIGHT: 11 Metres

History

The Cape Tourville Lighthouse was erected in 1971.

It replaced the inaccessible Cape Forestier Lighthouse on Lemon Rock which was decommissioned the same year.

The lighthouse was constructed as an automatic light and was never manned.

Both Capes are in the scenic Freycinet National Park.

Access

The lighthouse is in the Freycinet National Park. Access is via Coles Bay then about 10 kilometres by steep unsealed roads. A park entry pass is required, but well worth it.
