Bulletin – Vol 9 No. 6 – November/December 2006 |
| Editorial |

Welcome everyone to the November/December 2006 edition of the Lighthouses of Australia Inc Bulletin
As mentioned in the last Bulletin, I did not stand for re-election as Editor of the Bulletin at the Lighthouses of Australia Inc AGM, and the position is vacant. A call for assistance was broadcast so that the Bulletin could continue, BUT, unfortunately there have not been any takers.
I offered my services to LoA Inc to remain as Bulletin Editor until the end of 2006, and so, herewith is my final Bulletin, and the final one for Lighthouses of Australia Inc until such time as someone else can pick up the baton. Prism will still continue as the newsletter for members only, so if you are not a member - join LoA Inc.
It is a solemn occasion, but after four years I feel it is time to move onto supporting LoA Inc in a different manner, concentrating my attention on the maintenance and development of the rest of the LoA Inc website. Newsworthy stories as they come up will still be published, but as short individual snippets via the homepage.
I have a huge number of people to thank for their help over the last four years of preparing the Bulletin.
First and foremost, I sincerely thank Steve Merson, former Chief Editor (now Archivist) for LoA Inc, and Denise Shultz, LoA Inc President and Editor of Prism. Without their assistance, guidance, proof-reading, researching and writing, not to mention their valuable friendship – the job of Bulletin Editor would have been altogether something quite different. As an editorial team, we worked together exceedingly well – and our regular "editorial meeting" get-togethers (which inevitably ended up being more social occasions than work-related), were something I shall always remember. Never forget the "pontificating" over the red wine :-)
There are, of course, many others to thank – Malcolm Macdonald, original editor of the Bulletin, and founder of Lighthouses of Australia Inc; Pauline O'Brien, Secretary of LoA Inc; and the rest of the Lighthouses of Australia Inc Committee. I want to also thank the regular contributors to the Bulletin & Prism – I won't list names here in case I inadvertently forget someone.
Lastly, I need to thank the many hundreds of people and organisations over the years who have allowed us to use their photographs of lighthouses – the photographs that really make the stories in the Bulletin come to life.
So, enjoy this final Bulletin. I welcome your feedback, and if you are able to assist in preparing future editions of the Bulletin, please contact me via bulletinhelp@lighthouse.net.au.
Remember, if you have enjoyed reading this Bulletin, but you are not a member - support Lighthouses of Australia Inc, take up the opportunity to join LoA Inc, and assist us the preservation of Australia's lighthouses.
