Welcome everyone to the May/June 2005 edition of the Lighthouses of Australia Inc Bulletin.

First, we bring you the story of Joyce Westcott, who with LoA Inc Committee member Christian Bell's help, managed to get to the crash site on Deal Island where her brother died along with three other airmen in 1943. LoA Inc has also played a part in uniting Joyce with Pat Barlett, daughter of Harry Ford, the lighthouse keeper at the time on Deal Island. As a part of this story, Lighthouses of Australia Inc was mentioned in a double-page article published in the Melbourne Age on 1 May 2005.

Denise Shultz brings us a great story of her travels to Kangaroo Island with part one concentrating on the beautiful Cape du Couedic Lighthouse. Denise then presents the first of her lighthouse lectures in Pharology 101 - The Mercury Bath.

This edition contains a number of international lighthouse stories - something that we haven't covered much recently. In local news, Ian Clifford reports on the recent relighting of the Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse, and we give notice of the upcoming 90th anniversary of the Commonwealth Lighthouse Service. Also of interest is "The Lightkeeper" play, still travelling around Australia, and the Sea Britain Tour 2005, a maritime-themed tour around the UK in October. International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend is coming up in August, so find your nearest lighthouse, and take part in the activities.

Lastly, we have a series of letters on various topics - identifying pupils in a 1911 photo at Sandy Cape, memories of life as a keeper's child at South Solitary Island and Double Island Point, a call for assistance in lighthouse cemetery research, and a call for lighthouse children penpals. We also assist a reader in tracking down vital information about his grandfather lightkeeper at Cape Moreton.

Another jam-packed edition - apologies that we cannot publish the Bulletin monthly as it has been in the past, but we simply cannot keep up with all the correspondence and stories that are coming LoA Inc's way.

I welcome your feedback regarding the Bulletin and/or website - send your comments or suggestion to me via feedback@lighthouse.net.au.

We also hope that as ongoing Bulletin subscribers, those of you who are not members will take up the opportunity to join LoA Inc, and assist us the preservation of Australia's lighthouses.

Regards,
