Renovations at Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse, NSW
by John Ibbotson, Photographer & author
The Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse at Seal Rocks on the central NSW coast is undergoing major renovations.
The head and assistant keepers' cottages are being fully restored and upgraded. Even the power lines have been put underground.
It is anticipated that they will be available for overnight accommodation early in 2007.
Being at Sugarloaf Point at night is magical. It still has its original 16 panel, 920mm first order catadioptric Fresnel lens and watching the 16 beams rotate through the sky, like the spokes on a giant wagon wheel, is an unforgettable experience. I'm sure it will become a popular destination for lighthouse enthusiasts.
For more information contact the Booti Booti office of the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service on 02 6591 0300. Information will also be available on www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au.
