Althorpe Island / Troubridge Island - Draft Management Plan

As you might have read elsewhere in this issue, a draft plan for both these islands has been released for public comment.

The plan can be downloaded from the DEH Management Plans website under the heading draft management plans - released for consultation. or via this direct link

We urge you to read this lengthy document as it does have consequences to the lighthouse heritage on both these islands. It seems that being heritage listed may not in itself save these structures.

Some of the items in the plan are:

• Reduced (permit controlled) access to the islands
• Dismantle the jetty and flying fox on Althorpe Island
• Boarding up cottages 2 and 3 on Althorpe Island
• Possible future removal of the keeper's cottages on Troubridge Island

Closing date for submissions is Friday 21 March 2008

We will watch this carefully over the next few weeks.
