Dear FriendsAt last Pauline O'Brien's new Lighthouse of Western Australia <http://bajoran.upnaway.com/~obees/lights/> site, featuring the lighthouses of Fremantle, is up and well worth a visit. We hope to soon have up the Rottnest Island lighthouses which will compliment her pages. Also her class at Beaconsfield Primary School, Fremantle, have entered a Web site called "Guiding Lights" <http://www.omen.net.au/~beacy/lrng21/lrng21.htm> as part of a Western Australian School Web design competition. It was this involvement with her students that got her motivated to do something with the under represented WA lights herself. Lt-Col Brian Lord (retired) has made available a massive collection of photos and info on Australian lighthouses. This is a real bonus and the information covers a wide area of the country, especially some of the more out of the way little known places. Also I have great support from Cyril Curtain and The Australian Lighthouse Association with photos by Cyril and the late Ken Gott. Ken spent much time travelling Australia documenting lights in an effort to ensure their preservation. The Australian Lighthouse Association can contacted at:
Many others who assist the Project are acknowledged, every month, under the "Thanks to the Following People for Their Help in ..." below. The table represents the progress of the Project over it's first 7 months. It is pleasing to see the objective of not only creating my own pages is succeeding but also others are "taking the bit by the teeth" and producing their own pages as well.
[Formated table at <http://www.lighthouse.net.au/lights/Bulletin/9807/Bulletin%20Jul%2098.htm#LighthousesRepresented>]
[Formated table at <http://www.lighthouse.net.au/lights/Bulletin/9807/Bulletin%20Jul%2098.htm#IndexedPages>] Victoria and New South Wales are both now well represented as a result of the Project.
Victoria is the best represented by the Project pages, where as New South Wales has the most lights represented due to the work of Grant & Tracey Maizels' Lighthouse Pages.
I am now trying to place a greater emphasis on the states with lesser representation especially Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Department of Scrounge:If anybody has any of this material on any Australian lighthouses including the ones listed at the Department of Scrounge it would appreciated, especially the high priority ones:

Australian News:Action on South Channel Pile Light
After 124 years the South Channel Pile Light, on Port Phillip Bay is to be given a new lease of life. The light has been lighted off it's piles and taken by barge to Melbourne where it will be restored. Once restored it is to be re-established at at the mouth of the Rye Channel. It is the last intact pile lighthouse in Australia. The light was manned from 1874 to 1925 when the light was converted to acetylene gas.
