ILLW 2006 - Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 August 2006

Townsville Amateur Radio Club Inc again intends to "activate" Cape Cleveland lighthouse as part of the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend of 19th - 20th August 2006.

It was activated in 2002 and 2005 by the Townsville Amateur Radio Club Inc. We went over there in 2002 in a boat and dingy to get the equipment, food, water and ourselves the shore then lugged the gear up the hill.

For the 2005 trip we had a drop front barge with ute and everything was so much easier. Also in 2005 we took some lighthouse folk, Bill Carter and others from the family, who had lived there prior to WWII.

A lighthouse keepers day must have been interesting, we saw turtles feeding just below the lighthouse, a couple of pods of whales heading north and an amazing sunrise.
