A automatic beacon was established on this point in 1950. The beacon resembled a metal box with a river-style light on top. A major upgrade was undertaken during the 1970s and the current concrete structure and lantern was erected. The new tower was also seen as the replacement for the lighthouse on nearby Althorpe Island. Access The lighthouse on the top of the Yorke Peninsula in the Innes National Park and is easily accessible by road with a short walk to the tower itself.
